What We Offer

Here at Pro-Biker we like to think that we offer quality and value for money. We tailor our courses so that it doesn't matter if you're male or female, a novice or an experienced rider or even an alien coming for a visit (if the latter applies please make sure you have the right documentation, as at present we cannot accept Martian driving licences).

We also offer excellent training facilities including:

  • A large, safe, off-road training area
  • A comfortable classroom for instruction and debriefing (as well as the all important coffee break)
  • Free use of equipment including helmets, gloves and waterproofs, although if you have your own please feel free to use them as they are likely to be more comfortable
  • A large fleet of motorcycles
  • High quality radios used for all training

The CBT

The CBT (Compulsory Basic Training) is a legal requirement for beginners and is the fist step on the road of biking. You must be 16 or over to do this course which is undertaken on either a 50cc or 125cc machine.

The Theory Test

You will probably need to pass a theory test before taking a practical test for a moped or motorcycle. You do not need to take a theory test if you already hold a full licence for another category of motorcycle or have passed a moped test since 1 July 1996. It is the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) requirement that you must have passed a motorcycle theory test before any practical motorcycle test can be booked or taken.

For more information please click here.

We do not book the theory tests, to book a test or for more information please go to www.dsa.gov.uk

The Training

The training you require before you can take a test differs with everyone, the fact that you can ride a bike does not necessarily mean you can pass the test (could you pass your car test again without any lessons?). For this reason we offer an assessment lesson of approximately 1-2 hours for £35 (which will be taken off the final amount should you book a course with us). In this time the instructor will assess your riding ability and talk you through the training options. You MUST have done a CBT before you can do an assessment. If you are doing your CBT with us, the instructor should be able to assess you then if you let him know of your wish to take your test, therefore saving you the time and expense of coming for an assessment.

The Tests

Depending on your age and preferences there are three different tests available:

At age 16 you can pass a test on a moped.

Between
17 & 21 you can pass a test on a machine of 125cc and a power output that does not exceed 11kW (14.6 brake horse power and a minimum design speed of 62 mph). After passing a test on a machine of this size you can ride a machine of up to 25kW (33 bhp). After 2 years of riding with a restricted licence you can legally ride a bike of any power.

At age
21 or over you can pass a test on a machine with a minimum of 35kW (46.6 bhp). If you wish to ride a motorcycle on ‘L’ plates you can only ride a machine up to 11kW (14.6 bhp).

kW = kilowatt
bhp = brake horse power
